Women of the Earth

A migrant-woman led community garden and living laboratory for climate resilience that builds practice, community and knowledges around the intersection of care, healing and health for the land and for migrant women.

The CosTerritories listening tour that La Casa dels Futurs conducted in 2023 identified the need among immigrant women for access to land and nature as tools for healing, community building, and food sovereignty. As a result, in Summer of 2024 La Casa dels Futurs initiated the conversion of an abandoned gardening plot inside the Valley of Can Masdeu as a collective garden explicitly for and by migrant women.

The intentions of the Terraires project is to create a space centered on care, healing and health, that recognizes the synchronicities between care for self, care for community and care for nature, while providing access to nature. This multi-generational project – with an emphasis on integrating children and youth – meets regularly for workshops around regenerative cultures and regenerative agricultures and to continue to co-create a resilient space for healing and care.

Due to the highly limited access to water inside the Valley of Can Masdeu (incremented by the climate crisis), the garden is being developed to depend only upon rainwater. As such, it is a living laboratory for Mediterranean climate solutions that experiments with low-tech solutions to drought including drought-resistant varieties and water catchment technologies.
